Past Community Service Work
The Hammer City Roller Girls love this city and want to give back to the community. We wouldn’t be where we are today without community support and this is our way to say ‘thanks Hamilton’.
Over the past year the HCRG have donated over $ 3500 in cash and gifts as well as numerous volunteer hours to various local non-profit groups.
We aim to align ourselves with non-profit groups, which focus on the well being of women and children, particularly those that focus on the well being of women and children in the Hamilton area.
HCRG Food Drive, Every Game
For the 2008 season, each bout will have a HCRG Food Drive for St. Matthew’s House Food Bank. Tickets sold at the door, will be discounted with a food donation. Local food banks often have a difficult time keeping their shelves full in the summer months; so we are counting on our derby fans to give what they can. Remember, every box of Kraft Dinner and can of soup helps.
Every Home Game We Give Back
Also new for 2008; each team will partner with a local non-profit organization and assist them in fundraising and increasing local awareness of their group. Each organization will be featured at a bout throughout the summer, and the HCRG will donate $1. from each ticket sold that day to the organization. We will be encouraging our partner groups to set up information booths on their featured day to share their good work. The HCRG will also provide each partner organization with a set of tickets to each bout of the season. In addition to each team’s partner organization; the Soroptimist Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters are also part of this HCRG partnership.
To finish off our season, the HCRG will host a charity round robin championship on Saturday August 9th. Each team will be playing for their partner organization; the more each team wins, the more money will be donated to their charity.
In addition to each team’s partner organization; the Soroptimist Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters are also part of this HCRG partnership. We will be donating to the Soroptimist Club several home games this season. A portion of ticket sales for an international game scheduled for Saturday June 7 will be donated to the Big Brothers Big Sisters. The Steel Town Tankgirls will be playing the Flint City Roller Girls from Flint, Michigan. Flint is one of Hamilton's sister cities so come and show these girls how we do things in the Hammer and raise money for a great organization.

St. Matthew’s House: www.inform.hamilton.ca
Over the past two years, the HCRG have held food drives at bouts and at other special events. The league has also participated in the Adopt-a Family Christmas programme for the past two years. Individual roller girls have donated cash and gifts and the league has donated food vouchers to guarantee a special holiday for a local family. Both of these programmes are operated by St. Matthew’s House; a neighbourhood centre located on Barton Street. The mission of St. Matthew's House is to help improve the lives of people most in need living across the City of Hamilton.
